Electronic Voting System 

Overview:

A more transparent e-voting system comprising general purpose personal computers which is more reliable and lower cost to operate by polling sites.

The patent comprises both business method and utility claims.

Business Method claims:

Supplying a general purpose computer such as a laptop or desktop computer, with open-source or certified voting software for an election and then, donating, selling or refurbishing the computers for a secondary use after the election.

Advantages:

Transparency and openness to the public is improved by providing a computer that is general purpose and can be examined by members of the public after the election.providing up to date equipment in each voting cycle.

Business and marketing advantages as well as public good will can be achieved by companies supplying and branding the computers used in this e-voting system.

Utility claims:

Generates a unique record of the vote based on the actual sequence the vote was recorded. For example, voters can review their vote on a database such as the internet by indexing their vote number. The system does not record identity therefore the ballot and personal identity would remain secret.

Prevents voting fraud by capturing a personal biometric from a voter during the vote, such as a finger print, to determine if the voter is attempting to vote more then once.
